Samsung Announces Its Budget Galaxy Watch FE With Exynos W920 Chip And ECG Support To Take On The Apple Watch SE

The buzz about Samsung working on a new smartwatch has been there for quite a while. The Galaxy Watch FE is said to be a budget-friendly smartwatch that would be a new entry in the wearable lineup. The FE model was expected to be previewed alongside the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s unveiling at the Unpacked event in 2024. But now, the company has officially announced the Galaxy Watch FE with some pretty nifty features.

Samsung has announced its affordable Galaxy Watch FE, and it is said to be a reincarnation of the Galaxy Watch 4

Earlier speculations suggested that the FE variant would be a relaunch of the Galaxy Watch 4 and would be slightly cheaper than the Watch 6. All the claims match up, as Samsung has officially announced the new pocket-friendly smartwatch. The Galaxy Watch FE will feature the specs and designs of the Watch 4 but be a slightly upgraded version.

The Galaxy Watch 4’s chassis size was 40.4 x 39.3 x 9.8mm, and the FE model would follow the same design. The Watch FE will be available in only one size, 40 mm, and unlike the Watch 4 series, there is no option for the 44mm size. It comes with a 1.2-inch AMOLED display and 16GB of storage space.

The budget smartwatch will be powered by an Exynos W920, a dual-core processor with a RAM capacity of 1.5GB, which will give it a decent performance compared to the latest models. The battery size will also remain unchanged at 247 mAh. It will additionally sport 5ATM water resistance and follow a durability of MIL-STD-810H rating. The health mapping system will also feature Samsung’s BioActive sensors and will run on WearOS.

The Watch FE will house a distinctive feature compared to the Watch 4 that will improve the durability of the wearable. It will use a sapphire glass cover on top of its display which will be an upgrade from the Gorilla Glass DX+, giving an added layer of protection from scratches on the screen.

The affordable wearable aims to provide extensive health features and give value for money. It comes with sleep-tracking tools, heart rate monitors, and blood pressure sensors covering various health-related conditions. The company has also added support for ECG to measure a user’s heart health. It even suggests quite expansive workout routines. Users can set customized goals according to their physical capacity and conditions. It is meant to be a comprehensive health-tracking system that you can get for a relatively lower price and is said to be up against the Apple Watch SE.

The launch date for the Galaxy Watch FE is June 24th, and it will be available in three colors: black, pink gold, and silver. The smartwatch would cost $199, and the LTE variant would be priced a bit higher at $249.99
