Google Pixel 8a Goes Official With Tensor G3, AI Features, And 7 Years Of OS Updates

Seems like Google was hit by the fear of missing out after Apple released some pretty nice devices during its Let Loose event. The company has decided to go ahead and officially launch the Pixel 8a. The phone was supposed to come out during the Google I/O 2024, but it seems that the Mountain View company had different plans altogether. But hey, we cannot really complain.

The Pixel 8a is an excellent phone if you are not in the mood to pay flagship price

There is nothing about the Pixel 8a that we don’t already know. There have been extensive leaks in the past, but we do have the official pricing, something that was up in the air for the longest time. The phone is going to arrive in two variants this time around. The standard variant offers 128 gigs of storage, and it is going to run $499. However, you can always go for a higher storage variant for $559, which I think is still a good option. Another thing to keep in mind is that the 256 gigs will only ship in the Obsidian colorway.

As far as the specs are concerned, this is what your money is going to get:

It is safe to say that in terms of the specs, there is not a lot of difference between the Pixel 8a and the devices from the mainline series, with the vanilla Pixel 8 starting at $699. So, you will have to decide if you want to go for the more affordable or expensive variant; the choice is entirely yours.

The Pixel 8a also comes with a 64-megapixel primary sensor with a 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. On the front, you get a 13-megapixel camera sensor. This is the same camera setup that Google had used for the Pixel 7a, so if you have been wondering where the cost was cut, this is something that you should keep in mind.

For the most part, the Pixel 8a is a pretty standard affair, but that is not something that should let you down. If you are looking for a more affordable device in the market that delivers flagship levels of performance without costing an arm and a leg. In that case, I believe this phone is an excellent offering that you can go for because you are going to get a good phone without spending the money. Google has competitively priced this, which is always a good thing.

If you are interested, the Pixel 8a is now available for pre-order. Google is still going to make you wait because the device is going on sale on 14th May, the same day as Google I/O 2024. If you want to get your hands on the phone, it is available in Obsidian, Aloe, Porcelain, and Bay. The Obsidian color is the only color that is also available in the 256GB variant.
