CAD Renders Reveal OLED iPad Pro Could Be As Thin As 5mm, But Is Apple Inviting Another ‘Bendgate’ Fiasco?

Apple’s highly anticipated OLED iPad Pro models are slated to get significantly thinner than the current models. The thinner design and form factor could allow the devices to be as much as 5mm thin. We have got our hands on the CAD renders of the OELD iPad Pro which shows the design of the device and corroborates earlier rumors related to the thin form factor. Apple is upgrading the design of the iPad Pro models roughly after six years, and it remains to be seen if the thinner design will welcome bendgate for the OLED model.

OLED iPad Pro to feature a significantly thinner design than current models, as revealed by CAD renders

Apple’s OLED iPad Pro models are expected to launch by the end of next month. The devices have seen various delays, and the company is now finally set to introduce the new devices at its Spring event. The CAD renders of the OLED iPad Pro show both 11-inch and 13-inch models, depicting how thin the device could be in contrast to the current 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions (via MacRumors). It can be seen in the images embedded below that the OLED iPad Pro will be significantly thinner than the current generation iPad Pro models.

CAD renders are often leaked through factories, where case makers use the dimensions of the device to manufacture cases beforehand. This allows them to have an advantage over other third-party manufacturers as they can offer their products ahead of time. It can be seen in the CAD renderings that the 11-inch OLED iPad Pro will be 5.1mm thinner compared to 5.9mm on the current model. As for the bigger 13-inch model, it will be 5mm thin compared to 6.4mm on the current model. Check out the full dimensions below for more details:

  • 11-inch OLED iPad Pro – 249.7mm x 177.5mm x 5.1mm
  • 13-inch OLED iPad Pro – 281.5mm x 215.5mm x 5.0mm
OLED iPad Pro to be significantly thinner than current models, shows cad renders but would it welcome another bendgate?

Apple is drastically changing the design of the OLED iPad Pro. While a thin form factor is one aspect, the company could also debut a glass back for the upcoming models. This could allow the iPad to be charged via MagSafe. Additionally, accessory-makers could also utilize the technology. However, the highlight of the upgrade would be the new OLED display. We have to consider that Apple’s thin design on the OLED iPad Pro could welcome Bendgate. The iPad Pro is the perfect device for traveling, and it can get pressed on various occasions, in the backpack for instance. Henceforth, the company must use stronger materials to make the OLED iPad Pro more durable and not prone to bending.

Apple is finally ending the display discrimination between the iPad Pro models, as both versions are slated to get OLED panels. Other than this, we are also expecting the devices to feature Apple’s latest M3 chip for faster performance. It remains to be seen if the battery capacity will be reduced due to the thin design of the OLED iPad Pro, as shown in the latest CAD renders. We will share more details on the matter, so do stick around.
