Apple is potentially planning to rebrand Apple ID to “Apple Account” later this year. We have used Apple ID on our Apple devices for more than a decade, and the company is finally looking to minus the term “ID” and replace it with “Account”. If you have an Apple product, you would be familiar with the services that you can access through it. You will still be able to access all of your services as the company is only making changes to the name.
Apple plans to rebrand Apple ID to Apple Account, following Google’s footsteps
The news was shared by MacRumors, suggesting that sources familiar with the matter point to Apple rebranding its popular Apple ID to “Apple Account”. Using Apple ID, users can access Apple’s services like iCloud and the App Store. You also have the option to create third-party accounts and purchase music, apps, and additional content. If you want to create a new Apple ID, the service can be accessed through a wide range of platforms. For instance, you can do it on your iPhone and even on the web.
The publication also reported that Apple will rebrand Apple ID later this year, potentially alongside the release of iOS 18. iOS 18 will be codenamed Crystal while macOS 15 is codenamed Glow, and the platform will be showcased at the company’s WWDC 2024 event in June. The company could also announce the rebranding of Apple ID at its software event and make the necessary changes alongside the release of the new iPhone 16 models.
After Apple announces the change, it will see fit to make necessary visual changes within its apps and its official website. The company could also request third-party developers to make the necessary changes to their apps as well. We are not familiar with the additional changes that the company has planned for the Apple ID other than the rebranding. However, given Apple is getting closer to the launch of iOS 17.4, which will bring major changes to the App Store and developers, we can expect some new features.
Sources familiar with the matter state that the company is only looking to rebrand the term Apple ID with Apple Account. If the changes are confirmed, Apple could be moving closer to the likes of Google. Google also uses the term ‘Account’ in its services, which is essentially the same thing as Apple Account but for its own services. Note that these are mere speculations at this stage, and it remains to be seen if the company is indeed moving forward with the reported plans.
